My ENG 103 Research Plan # 1

My thesis statement is . . .

Based on several sources, I will argue that the portrayed version of John Nash's schizophrenia in A Beautiful Mind is largely accurate in its' protrayal of his symptoms and treatment.

I really need more cites from articles and I need to use the proper MLA citation. That's pretty much it.

  1. All right [its] not [its'] and you have a correct thesis statement.

Use the Gale Virtual Reference Library for descriptions of the actual symptoms, treatment and outcomes of schizophrenia.

(Remember this film is really not so accurate about all of the symptoms of schizophrenia because actual schizophrenics do not see people -- instead the have auditory hallucinations -- hearing voices.) The film is very accurate in depicting Nash's paranoia -- when he starts drawing on newspapers, etc. You should describe those scenes.

    For research....

Use LexisNexis for newspaper and magazine articles. You can find the NY Times film review of A Beautiful Mind through Google using these exact search terms [beautiful mind film review site:www.nytimes.com].

Use Academic Search Complete for scholarly articles / psychological studies on schizophrenia, esp. treatment and outcomes.

    Hope this helps! --Prof. Dragan
